April News
Our students have been hard at work preparing for upcoming school and district reading events. Over the next couple of weeks, two Grade 4/5 Reading Link teams will compete for a spot at the district challenge—and in practice rounds, the scores have been incredibly close! The district-winning team will have the opportunity to advance to the Fraser Valley competition.
Meanwhile, our middle school team (Grades 6–8) is gearing up for the Amazing Book Race. This dedicated group of seven students is reading nine titles, creating a banner, producing a video book trailer, and enjoying time connecting over great books. This is especially exciting as it marks the first post-COVID Amazing Book Race event—and the first time RTCS has ever had a team participate!
In our younger grades, many K–5 Super Readers are nearing their impressive goal of 200 nights of reading. Students earn small prizes for every 25 nights of documented reading, and at 100 nights, they are celebrated at an assembly with a certificate and a special prize generously provided by the Kiwanis Club of Chilliwack. Those who reach 200 nights will be recognized at our year-end assembly—what an incredible achievement!
Finally, a heartfelt thank you to everyone who supported our recent elementary Read-A-Thon. Your generosity is helping us keep our library collection fresh and engaging for all students. We are so grateful to be part of such a supportive community.

SORA has instructions in various languages for families who are newer to Canada, as well as some titles in other languages - Spanish, French, German, Japanese, and more!

Title options include five novels, one novel-in-verse, two graphic novels, and one non-fiction book. Thank you to our RTCS Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) for supporting this and many other initiatives in our school.
